Site Tour and Discussion with U.S. Senator Andy Kim

The New Jersey Sustainable Business Network and the New Jersey LCV organized a site tour of the Snyder Farm Rutgers University Agrivoltaics Program for U.S. Senator Andy Kim this weekend.

Agrivoltaics can increase the profitability of the land and maintain its agricultural productivity while contributing to New Jersey’s renewable energy goals. RAP, where hay is produced under solar arrays, is a model of dual use solar.

Together with NJSBN members and partners including Edward Potosnak III of NJLVC, Ed Seliga of the Somerset County Business Partnership and Advanced Solar Products, Inc., Lyle Rawlings of Advanced Solar Products and MSSIA, Andy Wall of Core Renewables, and Sue Dorward of Carbon Manager, we discussed solutions to the following: the consequences of Trump’s executive orders on energy, the Inflation Reduction Act, and loss of federal tax credits for clean energy projectsenergy supply concerns and the potential inability to attract AI data centers and other businesses to the state as a result; permitting and the bottlenecks that will be caused by U.S. Interior Secretary Burgum’s review; the delay in clean energy connections to the grid that is driving up costs; energy affordability; energy independence; grid security; grid reliability; and more.

Understanding the benefits of clean energy and the fact that meeting current and future energy demand is crucial to realizing New Jersey’s goal of attracting businesses and innovation, Senator Kim expressed his support of the clean energy transition and a desire to learn more.

NJSBN, a state affiliate of the American Sustainable Business Network, was happy to serve as a sustainable business education resource to the Senator and his staff including Sue Altman, Ben Giovine, and Leann Benny. Thank you to Laura J. Lawson, Josh Kohut, and Peter Nitzsche, and their Rutgers Agricultural Science Education team, and to Allison McLeod at NJLCV, for making the site tour and discussion a success.
