Send a Comment To EPA to NOT cut Critical Air Pollution Standards

Right now, we face a critical threat to both a stable economy and a healthy environment. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed repealing two of our most effective clean air standards: Greenhouse Gas Emissions Standards for Fossil Fuel-Fired Electric Generating Units and the Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS).

This is not just an environmental issue; it’s a business issue. Repealing these standards would have significant negative consequences for our economy, our workforce, and your bottom line.

ASBN has drafted a comment with input from members that attended our Climate & Energy Policy Brief, and now we are calling on all members of this community to use the language to submit your own comment directly to the EPA before the August 7th deadline.

The two rules the EPA is proposing to repeal are critical for protecting public health and our climate:

Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Standards for Power Plants: These standards are our primary tool for reducing climate-warming pollution from the power sector, the nation’s largest industrial source of GHGs. Repealing them would be a significant setback in the fight against climate change, leading to more extreme weather events that disrupt supply chains and business operations.

Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS): This rule has been incredibly successful in reducing emissions of mercury, acid gases, and other toxic pollutants from power plants. These pollutants are linked to a range of serious health problems, including neurological damage, respiratory illnesses, and cancer. Repealing the 2024 updates to MATS would allow for increased emissions of these harmful pollutants, threatening the health of our communities.

Use each sign on page to submit your own comment on each proposed repeal to the EPA directly.

The EPA proposed repeal of critical air pollution standards, specifically the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Standards for Fossil Fuel-Fired Electric Generating Units, undermines market stability, discourages private investment, and weakens America’s leadership position in the rapidly expanding global clean energy sector.

We urge all business leaders to use the following comment language as a guide, to either submit as written or edit to add in a personal anecdote about how clean air standards are important to your business and community, and to send your thoughts directly to the EPA using this sign on.

The proposed repeal of this rule is a reckless policy decision that is not grounded in common sense. It ignores the importance of regulatory certainty for businesses and disregards the private sector demand for clean energy. Send your comment to the EPA to voice concern over the repeal.
