We are New Jersey Businesses
Building a vibrant, sustainable economy that works for all.
About Us
Sustainable business innovation is a growing force driven by the common aim of achieving economic development along with shared prosperity and environmental stewardship. Hundreds of thousands of businesses, large and small and across all sectors, are proving daily that an expanded definition of success is possible.
Building on their proven approaches, NJSBN is where like-minded businesses join to create a new and dynamic 21st-century economy for the Garden State based on the “triple bottom line”: people, planet, and profit. As a state affiliate of the American Sustainable Business Network (ASBN), NJSBN and its members are working together to:
- Constructively influence and shape relevant public policy and legislation at the state level.
- Amplify the voice of sustainable businesses at the national level.
- Serve as inspirational models, collaborators, and educators for all New Jersey businesses and organizations that wish to adopt or improve their triple bottom line strategies and results.

The more businesses that speak up, the more influence we can have in helping to shape public policy in constructive ways. Public policy determines the basis on how companies compete – which behaviors are incentivized and which are discouraged or penalized.
NJSBN’s policy engagement is grounded in our guiding principles, and how they can be translated into policies that are designed to incentivize responsible investment, innovation and business practices in specific areas. What is the benefit of a well-designed and implemented public policy? When it makes doing the smart thing to do for a business the same thing as doing the “right thing” for its key stakeholders and the common good.
NJSBN helps to increase the policy voice of sustainable businesses in the following ways:
- Writing and publishing Op Eds and letters to the editor (LTEs)
- Sending sign-on letters to policy makers
- Hosting and sponsoring educational webinars and events
- Sharing and amplifying information via social media
- Meeting with members of the legislative and administrative branches.
- Submitting testimony at legislative hearings and comments during state agency public comment periods.
